An industry breakfast symposium entitled, "von Willebrand Disease (VWD): Overview, Treatment and Experience," was presented at the National Hemophilia Foundation's 56th Annual Meeting in Dallas on November 6, 2004.

By reviewing a copy of the transcript and completing a post-test and an evaluation form found in the back of the booklet, nurses may obtain CE contact hours. (Estimated hours to complete activity: 2 hours)

Purpose
To educate registered nurses, patients, and their families about von Willebrand Disease (VWD) and its treatment

Target Audience
Meets the educational needs of registered nurses involved in the care of patients with VWD.

Program Overview
This activity is designed to educate registered nurses, patients, their families, and other professionals about VWD and its appropriate treatment. Topics presented include an overview of VWD, appropriate and timely treatment of bleeds, prophylaxis, and surgery. Additionally, there is a panel discussion with women who have VWD and have children with the same disorder. The panel discusses some of the topics presented and shares their experiences.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe VWD from the point of view of both physician and patient
  • Discuss treatment options

  • CAN/ANCC: This educational activity for 2.4 contact hours is provided by the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM). PIM is an approved provider of continuing education by the Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
  • California Board of Registered Nursing: PIM is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 13485 for 2.4 contact hours. A statement of credit will be issued only upon receipt of a completed activity evaluation form and will be mailed to you within three weeks.
