Erik Berntorp, MD, PhD, is director of the Malmö Hemophilia Center in Malmö, Sweden. He also serves as head physician in the Department for Coagulation Disorders at Malmö General Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Berntorp is professor of Clinical Coagulation Research, with a focus on hemophilia.
As a world-renowned expert on bleeding disorders, Dr. Berntorp has lent his knowledge to a number of prestigious medical journals and scientific textbooks, including the Textbook of Hemophilia (2005), Seminars in Hematology, and Blood. He has contributed over 130 original articles to international medical journals. Dr. Berntorp also spends his time organizing and chairing various medical symposia and meetings on hemophilia, including the International Course in Hemophilia held in Malmö, Sweden.
Dr. Berntorp received his medical degree from the University of Lund in Malmö, Sweden, where he also completed his thesis research and received his PhD. His professional affiliations include the Swedish Society of Hematology, the Swedish Hemophilia Association, and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). He has participated in several World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), World Health Organization (WHO), and ISTH professional meetings on the treatment of bleeding disorders.
