Dr. Kouides is the medical and research director of the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center, Inc. in Rochester, New York.
Over the years, he has served as principal investigator on a number of retrospective cohort and prospective studies dealing with the gynecological and obstetrical complications of von Willebrand Disease (VWD).
Currently, he is studying the diagnosis and management of menorrhagia in women with VWD for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the use of levonorgestrel intrauterine device for VWD-related menorrhagia.
Dr. Kouides, who is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, received his medical degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse. His professional memberships
include the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology, and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).
Dr. Kouides is cochair of the CDC Universal Data Collection study of women with bleeding disorders and cochair of the ISTH Women�s Health Issues Scientific Subcommittee, selected to develop
guidelines for the diagnosis and management of bleeding disorder-related menorrhagia. He is also on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF), the
CSL Behring grant review committee, and the executive board of the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Research Society (HTRS) of North America. Dr. Kouides is coeditor of the HTRS newsletter and NHF�s HemAware magazine.
